Herbert Bourne was listed as an apprentice engraver, living in Duke St, Stoke, in the household headed by his father, an artist [for potters], at Duke St, Stoke, in the 1841 Census. It was not until the Census of 1851, when he was living as an unmarried lodger at 18 St Paul’s Terrace, London, that he was listed as ‘Historical Line Engraver’.

      Dear David,
Apologies for the lengthy delay in replying. Thank you for your information. What connection/interest do you have in Herbert Bourne?
Since writing this we have established that Herbert Bourne’s daughter, Miss Eva Bourne, married Kaspar Finzel Hayward of 10 Cathcart-hill (this author’s address!). Kaspar emigrated to South Africa and Eva Bourne joined him and it is there that they marry in 1893.
      Regards, C.H.H.S.
